Headmaster - James Twardowski

Jim Twardowski joined the BCA administrative team as Headmaster on July 1, 2017, after his retirement from Sheldon ISD.  He brings 33 years of experience as a classroom teacher, coach, and administrator to BCA.  Mr. Twardowski’s administrative career began as an assistant principal at Horace Mann Junior High in 1997. Other administrative roles he has performed include junior school principal (Horace Mann), high school principal (C.E. King High School), director of athletics (Sheldon ISD), and administrative services (Sheldon ISD).  Prior to becoming an administrator, Mr. Twardowski taught and coached for 13 years at Blocker Middle School (Texas City), Texas City High School, and Ross S. Sterling High School.

Mr. Twardowski is a native of Highlands, TX and attended Goose Creek CISD schools, graduating from Ross S. Sterling High School in 1979. He holds an undergraduate degree from Texas Christian University (Class of 1983) and a Master’s Degree in Educational Management from the University of Houston – Clear Lake (1991).

Dean of Students - Andrea Case

Andrea S. Case became a part of Baytown Christian Academy’s faculty in January of 1999 when she accepted a position as a second-grade teacher.  Mrs. Case’s teaching career, however, started with a summer teaching job in Houston, TX in June of 1981 upon her graduation from the University of Southern Mississippi where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education—Major English and Minor French.  After teaching various grade levels and starting her own family, Mrs. Case returned to the classroom herself at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where she graduated in 1996 with a Master of Arts in Christian Education.  All in all, Mrs. Case has over 35 years of teaching experience in various classroom and administrative roles.  In her own words—“BCA is where my heart is—it is where God has placed me.  I am blessed to have spent the last 20 years of my career as an educator at BCA.  The first nine of those years I served as an elementary teacher of various grade levels, and over these last years I have served in different administrative roles.  I fully endorse Christian education and strive to build meaningful relationships that impact students and their families for Christ.  BCA’s mission perfectly sums up my own educational philosophy:  Teaching the Mind; Reaching the Heart.”

Grammar Director- Sandi Welch

Sandi Welch has been married for 25 years to her high school sweetheart and has two beautiful children.  Her son graduated from BCA in 2015 and has completed two years at Southwestern Assemblies of God University. He is currently coaching Varsity football, as the defensive coordinator,and is the head Varsity baseball coach at BCA, while still pursuing a degree in Education.  Her daughter graduated this year, as the Valedictorian of the Class of 2020, and is beginning her secondary education at Lee College in Baytown, where she will be working on a degree in Biology.  She was a Varsity cheerleader since her 7th grade year and will be active in the cheerleading program this year, as the assistant coach.  She will also be the Grammar librarian on Fridays.  Mrs. Welch is beginning her 9th year at BCA but has taught in early childhood areas for the past 24 years.  She taught Pre K4 her first year here and then moved to Kindergarten for 4 years. She moved into the office as the Assistant to the Deans in 2018, and will be starting her new position as Grammar Director this fall. She was the Cheerleading Coach for 7 years and the Tennis coach for 4 years, but has since resigned those positions to focus on the new opportunity and new responsibilities as the Grammar Director.    

"I love being a part of the BCA family.  It is my desire to see children and families come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and to know that I am a part of that, there is no greater joy. The fact that both of my children are giving back to the school that poured so much into their lives and helped mold and shape them into the beautiful young adults they are today, make this momma's heart so very proud.  It's an honor and a privilege to be here and be part of what God is doing in, and through, BCA.  I am proud to be a Bulldog!"

College Liaison - Dr. Gary Holmes

Gary Holmes, Ed.D. has been the college liaison and chemistry/conceptual physics teacher for the past six years.  As the BCA college liaison, he works closely with students and parents as they prepare for career and college. In his classes, he emphasizes activity-based science instruction which allows his students to enjoy and experience the wonders of science while developing a strong science foundation.

Dr. Holmes has 42 years of educational experience including: Sunday school teacher; junior/senior high school science teacher, coach, and assistant principal, community college instructor, and university adjacent professor.  He is an avid birdwatcher and enjoys nature and outdoor activities.

“I enjoy learning about the magnificence of God’s Creation and teaching about all things science and nature related. It has been a blessing to teach science to the wonderful students at BCA and to assist our students in their college preparation and selection.”

Athletic Director - Kevin Jones

Coach Jones came to BCA in 2018 with 30 years of teaching and coaching experience. He started his career in Pearland, Tx and moved back home to finish 27 years in Goose Creek ISD as a Jr High and High School coach. Coach Jones is a native of Baytown where he graduated from Robert E Lee in 1985. He then attended Stephen F Austin and Sam Houston State where he graduated.

I am blessed to be able to work with athletics at BCA where we can implement Christian values into sports, I love all sports for both boys and girls. My favorite part of the job is watching our students compete with a good attitude and good sportsmanship. You win some and you lose some, but these personal characteristics that are learned will last a lifetime.

Elementary Staff

Pre-K3 - Maegan Phinny

Meagan was a stay at home mom until last year when she started subbing at BCA and took over kinder second semester. She is the JV cheer coach. She and her husband have been married 8 years and they have one 6 year old son, Memphis.  Some things Meagan enjoys during her free time include watching all kinds of sports, family time, and traveling. Meagan is excited for this school year, and to watch her students grow and learn all about Jesus!

Pre-K3 - Kristen Walker

This is Kristen Walker’s first year teaching at BCA, and she is so excited to be a part of such a great school. She has been teaching for the last 7 years as a pre-kindergarten teacher here in Baytown and also College Station. She is a member of Memorial Baptist Church where she has served for the last 5 years in the children’s ministry. She is currently attending school to become certified in EC-6th with the hopes of becoming a 1st grade teacher. She has two beautiful daughters, Emery and Elliott. They are truly her biggest blessings. She can’t wait to see what this school year brings!

Pre-K4 - Erica Pokluda

Erica Pokluda was born in Orangefield, TX and moved to Baytown in 2001.  Prior to joining BCA in 2018 as a preschool teacher, Erica had 3 years of previous experience in early childhood education as a preschool teacher.  Erica also substituted at BCA in various Grammar grades during the 2017 – 2018 school year.  Erica was nominated and volunteered as the Volunteer Coordinator at BCA in 2017 and continues to fulfill this volunteer role.  

Erica spent nearly 20 years of her career working for major oil and gas companies such as, Chevron, Shell, and General Electric (GE) – Oil & Gas (formerly Hydril), with experience in logistics, customer service, account management (sales), and project management.  Her last position in the oil and gas industry was with General Electric (GE) – Oil & Gas as a certified Lead Project Manager.  Erica has extensive training and/or certifications in customer service, leadership, Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt), project management and internal auditing.  She has also been a mentor for foster children through United Way, and has some training and experience in the medical field. 

Erica has been married to her husband since 2009 and they have two children.    

“I am truly grateful for the experience and knowledge that I’ve gained throughout my career.  I started my career in early childhood education, moving into the oil and gas industry, and then circling back around into early childhood education.  I know God has a plan for me and lead me back to where I am today for a reason.  Children have always been my true passion!  I know the experience and knowledge that I have gained throughout my career has and will continue to help me in the classroom, as well as being able to provide additional support to BCA through my skill sets. This has truly been a blessing and I am loving every minute!  I am truly blessed!”  

Pre-K4 - Kelly Goodwin

Kelly Goodwin is delighted to be apart of the BCA faculty. It is her second year here, and she is also a substitute teacher for GCCISD. She is from England, UK. She has a love for learning and believes education is essential. She has studied several programs: GNVQ in Health and Social Care, EMT, and pre-med before transferring over to a B.S. in Psychology. She finds education and psychology to be of great interest and believes it to be her niche due to the personal experience and knowledge derived from being exposed to different challenges: gifted, Asperger's, anxiety, ADHD/ADD. This year, she will be pursuing a master's degree as her ultimate goal is to become an Educational Psychologist. 

Kelly likes to volunteer for the community.  One of her most rewarding opportunities was as a Family Readiness Group Leader for the U.S. Army. She assisted the unit commander and the deployed soldiers' families. Her current volunteer work involves helping to run the local autism support group. 

"My interests are travelling around the globe, the arts, outdoor activities, research, and genealogy. My passion is to help and advocate for children no matter what their struggles may entail, helping them to be successful in whatever way I can." 

Kinder - LaShay Groendyke 

Mrs. Groendyke has been at teacher at BCA since 2018. She has a passion for early childhood education and is thankful for each day she gets to teach at BCA.  She served in children’s church ministries before joining BCA.  Mrs. Groendyke has been married for over 18 years and has three children currently attending BCA.  In her free time, she enjoys traveling with her husband and children and exploring the beautiful world God has made.  

Kinder - Kim Hendricks

Kim Hendricks has been a teacher at BCA since 2008. She has been married for thirty-two years.  Kim and David have four children.  All four have graduated from BCA.  They have one grandchild and two more on the way. She attends Second Baptist Baytown.

Grade 1 - Katie Ormsby

Katie Ormsby has been a teacher at BCA since 2013. She is honored and proud to be at such an awesome school.  She loves serving the Lord and she loves teaching children; being able to do them both at the same time is a daily dream come true.

“I was looking for a school home that felt right - BCA has a family-like atmosphere and is a God-filled community of the faithful. You can’t get better than BCA! It’s the place to be!”

Grade 2 - Rhonda Hinote

Rhonda Hinote grew up in Pasadena and went off to East Texas Baptist University where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Speech Communications and Religion. She went on to earn her EC-4th teaching certificate from LeTourneau University and has taught PK3- 1st grade on and off for 7 years total in both private and public schools. This is her first year in 2nd grade and at BCA. She is happily married to Wes, who is a local pastor and they have 3 beautiful girls who also attend BCA. Mrs. Hinote's love for Jesus, her family, her students, Disney, and the color pink are very evident from the start! She and her family are excited to join the BCA family and look forward to a great year.

Grade 3 - Tierra Kuykendall

Tierra Kuykendall Graduated from Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi with a Bachelors degree in early childhood education. She has substituted for Brackettville ISD and Goose Creek CISD. She was also a personal tutor for 1 1/2 years. Ms. K. has been teaching here since 2017 and she is very excited to be apart of this wonderful school.

Grade 4/5 - Deanne Cummings

Deanne Cummings comes to BCA with 29 years of public school experience. She loves to read and write. Her historic novel, Knights of Warsaw, was published in 2009. She is currently working on her second work of fiction. She is married to her husband, Keith, also a teacher. They have two boys, Ian, 26, and Bryon, 23. Oma and Opa have one grandchild. Future retirement plans include a move to Fort Davis, Texas, home to the darkest skies and brightest stars in the state.

Grade 4/5 - Angela Norris

Angela Norris has been teaching at BCA since 2017. Before coming to BCA she taught and tutored in Goose Creek CISD. She has also served as children's minister at her church. Mrs. Norris has been married for 20 years and has two children, Carli and Caden, that attend BCA.  Any free time she has is spent watching her kids play sports.   

Mrs. Norris is excited to be at a school where Christ is the focus and can't wait to see how God will use her in the lives of her students.

Orchestra/Choir - Clarence Frank

Music - Shelley Van Bibber

Shelley Van Bibber is thrilled to be a part of BCA and to be able to share the joy of music with the grammar students. Mrs. Van Bibber has been married to Scott for 47 years. Scott is the senior pastor of Baytown First Church of the Nazarene (the Pumpkin Patch church). Mrs. Van Bibber graduated from Southern Nazarene University in Oklahoma with a B.S. in Elementary Education. She has a Texas Lifetime Certificate in Elementary Education.

Mrs. Van Bibber has taught kindergarten, second grade, fifth grade and music and also has substituted for a total of over 30 years as an elementary school teacher. From a young age she wanted to be a teacher and a pastor’s wife.

The Van Bibbers have been in ministry for 45 years in 6 states from California to North Carolina. Their sons Kris and Kyle were both born in Texas (Kris in Amarillo and Kyle in Houston). Kris lives with his wife and two sons in Goonellabah, Australia. Kyle and his wife live near Orlando, Florida with two of their sons. Their oldest son and his wife are attending medical school in Sacramento, California.

“God has blessed me with a wonderful Christian family and I look forward to getting to know the students, staff and parents at BCA. God is good and faithful to His children!”

Art - Karah Hendricks

Karah Hendricks attended BCA when she was in the 8th grade and later graduated in 2013. She worked the BCA extended care program for a year and now she is on her 2nd year of being the art teacher and librarian. She loves this school and the Christian environment. She loves watching her students grow in their artistic abilities and expand their knowledge about different artists!

PE/Health - Mitch Viator

Mitch Viator, M.Ed. has been an educator for over 20 years as a teacher, coach, and an administrator. He is a graduate of McNeese State University and Houston Baptist University. His passion for education and athletics comes naturally, as his grandparents and his parents were all teachers, coaches, and administrators. As a high school basketball coach, he has enjoyed tremendous success with both girls' and boys' teams, and he is excited to bring his passion for education and basketball to BCA!


Secondary Staff

ELA / JH Social Studies - Julie Fantini-King

Ms. Julie Fantini-King has been with BCA since 2013, teaching primary English, but also social studies. During her twenty years in education, she has taught English in both public and private schools, from 6th grade grammar to 11th grade Advanced Placement. She has also worked as a district English curriculum coordinator. She began her career as a high school English teacher, and after two years, became English Department Chair. She is also the Adviser for the National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society.

Latin / History / JH Bible - Amber Menefee

Amber Menefee taught two years in public school before coming to BCA in 2013.  She has a B.A. from Houston Baptist University in History and Biblical Languages.  She teaches World History, American History, Latin and Bible to both junior high and high school and also organizes the yearbook. She and her husband welcomed their darling baby boy into the world in April 2019. He is the light of their lives.

“Teaching at BCA has allowed me the blessing and honor to watch my students grow and mature both academically and spiritually over the course of several years.  In a culture that is increasingly hostile to Christian values, BCA is a safe harbor where students can receive an excellent education in an environment that is wholly grounded in Christ.”

JH/HS Math/ JH Bible - Barbara Elliott

Mrs. Barbara Elliott was born in Oklahoma, but has lived in Texas since 1988.  She is married and has three children; two sons (who have graduated from BCA) and a daughter who is currently in high school.  She and her family are faithful members of Community Baptist Church in Crosby, Texas, where they actively serve the Lord as music ministers, Sunday school teachers, and praise band members. She graduated from OSU Technical School with Automotive degree and Southeastern Oklahoma State University with her education degree. She has been a Christian educator since 1993, serving as both teacher and principal, and has been with Baytown Christian Academy since 2012.

She loves the Lord and has a deep desire for each of her students to know Him and love Him also!  Her favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11. 

Bible - Nathan Menefee

Nathan Menefee has been a teacher at BCA since August of 2011. He teaches Old Testament, New Testament, Systematic Theology and Church History as well as Speech and SAT Prep. Nathan graduated from Houston Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts, with a double major in Christianity and Biblical Languages and he received his Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Dallas Baptist University.  He also serves as a volunteer police chaplain for the La Porte police department. 

Social Studies - Mark Helzer

Mr. Helzer has taught history-related subjects in public and private schools for 32 years.  Happily married for nearly 39 years and the father of two lovely daughters, Mr. Helzer has also coached track and field, football, basketball, volleyball, and cross country.

Mr. Helzer's favorite chapter in the Bible is John 14.  His twin goals in the classroom are to help each student achieve success and to model Christ to every student.

Spanish - Stephanie Lara

Stephanie Lara feels so happy to be welcomed into the BCA family this year. Although she previously taught Pre-K for 3 years, she has worked with youth and young adults for about 10 years at her local church, which she feels has been part of God's master plan to prepare for High School education. She has done mission work in 4 different countries, sharing her love for the Lord and the gospel while running VBSs for the local children and serving as a translator for several international teams.

She is so grateful for a school like this, giving her the opportunity to not only teach high school teens, but help lead them in God's love and purpose. She is fluent in Spanish, as it is her first language, and is excited to be able to teach and help others learn the beautiful language. She will also be coaching our soccer team, which just adds on to the fun she expects to have this year! She grew up playing soccer, played through high school and then some in college. She is eager to see our soccer team conquer this season!


English - Melissa Sanchez

This is Mrs. Sanchez’s first year at BCA. She is originally from California but moved to Texas in 1969 and has been here ever since. A graduate of Ross S. Sterling High School, Mrs. Sanchez went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in literature from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. During her 40 year career as a public education teacher, Mrs. Sanchez has taught English, theatre arts, reading, journalism, and speech, as well as serving as a substitute teacher before college and after retirement. She and her husband, Mike, have 2 grown children, 4 grandchildren, and will be blessed with another grandchild in March.

JH / HS Science - Linda Flynt

Linda Flynt was born in Baytown and lived most of her life in Cove, Texas. She is married to Gary Flynt and they have two sons who attend BCA.  They have attended Second Baptist Church in Baytown for 20+ years. While attending Lee College, she was a missionary for the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board.  She then went on to get a BS in Marine Biology from Texas A & M at Galveston “Sea Aggies”.  She worked as a consultant in EPA and TNRCC testing, Research and Development for ExxonMobil, taught three years at BCA, stayed home to begin raising two boys which included home schooling for seven years, then in 2015 came back to BCA to teach.  She has taught in Sunday school for College and Career as well as High School, children’s programs, and Cub Scouts with in the past 20 years. Linda leads her home school group in dissections to enrich their curriculum. She loves her students as they are her own children and has a passion for God and encourages them to be who God put them here to be, we ALL have a purpose.She loves science and math and enjoys watching for the “light bulb moment”. She teaches junior high math and high school sciences.  She is excited to lead her classes in the new science lab, it is beautiful!

She chose BCA because it allows her to teach any subject from the stand point of a Christian, which is a must for her children’s education.  BCA is small and allows for a good student to teacher ratio, it is also a big  family.  When one is down, we all help in picking them up.  We study hard, play hard, and love a lot!  


HS Math - Cheryl Dickerson

Cheryl Dickerson joined the staff at BCA this year as the high school math instructor.
She taught middle school math for ten years and high school math for five before
becoming an instructional specialist for Goose Creek CISD. After retiring in 2014,
she began a math instructional consulting business helping districts improve their
math instruction along with their state testing scores. She has three grown children
and six grandchildren, the oldest three attending high school at BCA.

She loves math and kids and hopes to make a difference in their academic as well as
personal lives.
